Vern began his real estate career in the Alexandria area back in the mid 70"s. He has many years experience as both an agent and a broker and over twenty five years in residential construction. He is also a licensed building contractor.  Vern has over twenty six years in management, advertising and marketing having served as station manager of KCCO/KCCW Television in Alexandria and Walker, MN. and an additional seven years as Sales Manager and President of Dynamic Homes, Inc., a modular housing manufacturer in Detroit Lakes. Being a Real Estate Broker and a Building Contractor, Vern can not only help you find the perfect building lot but can help you custom design the new home of your dreams. Vern together with a select group of sub-contractors have built about a hundred homes in the Detroit Lakes area.

With the current sluggish home sales market and economic situation, it is extremely important to price your listings properly. Being familiar with maket conditions and as a contractor, he knows building costs and replacement values and can help you determine an appropriate value for your property. We do present all offers and as the seller, you always have the final say in selling your property.

Vern has served several years on the Board of Directors and is the Past President of the Lakes Country Association of Realtors. He is also an accredited buyers representative (ABR) and a graduate of the graduate realtors institute.(GRI)

Vern purchased 1st United Realty in 2000 from Don Lefevbre, the previous Broker/Owner, who is still an agent with 1st United Realty. Vern had been an agent of 1st United Realty since 1997. Vern has four grown children and has been active in the Detroit Lakes Community since his move from Alexandria in 1990. His children, Douglas, Kristi, Joseph, and Joshua were very active in school activities throughout high school and college: in fact, all were baseball or fastpitch softball pitchers. He averaged attending some eight to ten games a week watching his children participate, sometimes alternating between fields to see the kids play. Two of his children, Douglas and Joseph are in management of the Hormel Foods Corporation. Douglas is a superintendent at Jenni-O Turkey Store in Pelican Rapids and is married to Jessica (Sargent) and lives in Detroit Lakes.  Joseph, married to Rachael (Stenger) is a Sr. Relief Superintendent/Manager at Hormel/Dold in Wichita, Kansas.  Kristi is married to Mark Schiller, a CPA, and they live in Sandpoint, Idaho.  Joshua is married to Anna (Hagadorn) and they reside in Country Haven Estates just outside Detroit Lakes. Josh is a licensed Building Contractor and operates Best Bilt Homes, the local authorized builder for Dynamic Homes in Detroit Lakes and the surrounding area.  Vern is the proud "papa" of five grandchildren: Torri and Max Muzik of Detroit Lakes,  Joe and Lily Ann Schiller of Sandpoint, Idaho and Alexandara Jo of Wichita, Kansas. .
