Mary was born and raised near Detroit Lakes in Height of Land Township. She was born Joan (Mary) Stenger into a family with four brothers and four sisters. After completing school, Mary moved to St. Paul and worked for Northwest Airlines. Three years later in 1961 she married Thomas Wosika and they have five children. In 1973, her husband who was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company was transferred to Quest in Detroit Lakes, MN. They moved to a farm thirteen miles east of Detroit Lakes on Highway 34. 

Their children are all grown and on their own and they have eleven grandchildren who range in age from two to twenty-one. Two of their oldest sons live in St. Paul. Their son, Thomas is a wildlife artist and a St. Paul Fireman and their son Nicholas is a computer consultant for Cisco Networks. Their other three children reside in the Detroit Lakes area. Their daughter Jane is a Special Education Teacher in the Frazee High School, their son Jeffrey is a contractor/homebuilder in Detroit Lakes, and their daughter Stacia is a Licensed Practical Nurse and homemaker.

In 1998, after her husband took an early retirement from the telephone company and her children were all gone and on their own, she decided to start a new career and became interested in Detroit Lakes Real Estate. She has always enjoyed meeting people and the adventure of exploring land, homes, and new ideas. With a son in the building trades, and several brothers involved in excavating, she can get advice on building structures and septic and sewer installations or any problems she encounters when looking at property. Having grown up and living in the Detroit Lakes/Frazee area for most of her life, she knows the area and the many lakes surrounding it very well. Having been in real estate now for over nine years, combined with the many continuing education courses she has taken, she has sharpened her knowledge of property and the legalities involved in it's sale and transfer. She and her sister, Diana, who is also a licensed realtor and a member of the 1st Team at 1st United Realty, work as a  team giving their clients two experienced realtors for the price of one. Their knowledge of the Lakes area combined with the professionalism of all the owners, agents and office staff of 1st United, make a team you can count on to find you that special piece of property you are seeking or to achieve the best terms and price of the property you are selling. If they do not have what you are looking for, they will do their very best to find it in a timely manner.

Having been married over forty years and having eleven grandchildren, her life is never boring. When she is not busy with her real estate clients, she enjoys sewing, quilting, gardening, and baking. Her number one priority is satisfying her customers and she will do a good job and her very best for you!
